BRENDAN GALL was recently named by Toronto’s NOW Magazine as one of the ‘Top 10 Theatre Artists’ of 2007. On the heels of this now comes his feature film debut as both screenwriter andactor with DAKOTA playing at The Royal May 5th through the 7th. To add to this, Gall is only weeks away from the premiere of his first full-length play ‘Alias Godot’ in Tarragon Theatre’s Mainspace (helmed by artistic director Richard Rose).
Newly formed production company EL DUO MOTION PICTURES co-founded by longtime friends, first-time director MATTHEW ATKINSON and first-time producer SHAWN MYRICK, enlisted Gall’s help in bringing DAKOTA, their first independent feature film, to life.
The film reunites six friends under one roof for a weekend of fun and self discovery. “It’s definitely a hang-out movie. People seem to really connect to the central characters, and the soundtrack is great,” says director Atkinson. “It’s a film about reuniting with friends – who can’t relate to that?” Atkinson adds “I met Brendan while casting a short film, and now I can’t work with anyone else. He is both a talented writer and amazing actor and we are just glad to have him involved.”
Staying true to DAKOTA’s independent spirit and Toronto locale, indie darlings DO MAKE SAY THINK, and local singer-songwriters ROYAL WOOD, REID JAMIESON and HARMONY TROWBRIDGE all lent songs to the film’s impressive soundtrack. DAKOTA will be released on DVD by MONGREL MEDIA this spring, and subsequently have its broadcast premiere on Super Channel in June.
DAKOTA screens at The Royal located at 608 College St. West (at Clinton St.) Monday May 5th at 7PM,Tuesday May 6th at 9:30PM and Wednesday May 7th at 7PM.
Screener copies are available upon request.
